How to optimize your Oktoberfest experience
BOOK YOUR FLIGHT AND ACCOMMODATION MONTHS IN ADVANCE
We strongly recommend to organize and book your trip months in advance
to avoid disappointment as Munich´s places to stay are booked out
very early.
TRY TO AVOID WEEKENDS...IF POSSIBLE!
There seems
to be this huge big misconception that one should only go to the
Oktoberfest on
a weekend because it´s so… but one soon realizes
that this is completely
incorrect unless you’re a fan of major overcrowding.

visitors during the course of a week day and up to 650 000 people on
any
Friday, Saturday or Sunday
With
good
weather all these extra people are in the beer gardens or milling
around the
fairgrounds going on all the rides but as soon as it gets a little
colder or
even starts to rain you´ve suddenly got up to 250 000 more
people trying to get
into the tents that have already closed their doors to overcrowding
anyway
Weekends
one needs to get there by 7am to maybe get into a tent and maybe find a
seat at
a table where as on a week day any time before 4pm is fine
The
tents
open their doors at 9am and are usually closed due to overcrowding by
9:15am,
as in closed within 15 minutes after opening their doors, so one can
simply
imagine the chaos
Almost
all
the larger tour operators invade the Oktoberfest on the first and
second week
ends with their very large groups of people that all seem to know each
other
Very
few
locals go on weekends unless they have a proper table reservation in
one of the
cordoned off boxes reserved for regulars or locals
There
are
1800 toilet seats and about another 1000 standing spaces which seems to
be more
than adequate on a week day but on a weekend the queues are so long
that they
have to be regulated by the police on the premises
COME IN BAVARIAN OUTFIT
A
very
large percentage of people all wear the traditional gear as in tourists
and
locals alike and it is definitely much more fun and highly recommended
to dress
up and surprisingly inexpensive for a costumed outfit or even a rental
